Is Your Child Misusing Instagram?

Instagram is one of the most used social media applications. There are many features of this application that most people are unaware of. The application is owned by Facebook, and is extremely easy to use.

With this app you can easily market your project and yourself. You can promote anything from ideas to brands. The most striking thing about Instagram is the image-centric content, which captivates the viewer.

This has made Instagram crucial for everyone, even those who do not take or upload pictures individually. Whether its companies with their businesses at stake, or parents concerned about their children’s safety, more and more people now have to use Instagram to track activity. They often use an Instagram spy app in this regard.

Instagram and Kids

In this age of science and technology where every teenager is using social media and the internet, the most urgent question is with regards to what we are doing to protect young people online. Keeping your children away from excessive digitization is a struggle that many parents would be able to relate with.

Parents have the biggest role to play in the online safety of teens. It is important for parents to keep an eye on what their children are doing and at the same time set guidelines for their children to use the internet.

The kids and teens spend hours getting likes on Instagram. They spend their time playing games, watching YouTube Influencers videos, or chatting with different groups of friends on the WhatsApp. But sometimes they can face various threats and mishaps, like for instance cyber bullying.

Of course, teens today do not just use the internet through computers. It is true that if the computer in the house is placed in a place where everyone in the family keeps coming and going, then you can see what the children are doing on the internet. But if children have a tablet or cell phone with internet, as is the norm these days, they mostly log in to the internet at a place where you can’t keep an eye on them.

Through the comments and pictures that young people post on the internet, criminals can guess where the teen lives, what school he or she goes to and at what time no one will be at his house.

As per the terms and conditions of the application, the teens has to have at least 13 years of age to join or create an account on Instagram. But there is no age verification process available on the app, so it is easy for the children to dodge the conditions.

Kids’ activities on Instagram

This is a natural phenomenon in every child. As the children get older, their curiosity about everything grows. To get an idea of the kind of content that kids can see on Instagram you need to know which accounts they are following. If they follow their friends only, and don’t search anything else, they would only see feeds of their friends. But because of their nature to explore new things, kids cannot resist looking for other things like adult content, talking to strangers, passing comments that could land them in trouble.

What parents should do for kids safety?

In this regard, parents should install various forms of parental control in their mobile phones, laptops and tablets, including an Instagram monitoring app. The apps let them know how much time their child is spending on the internet, while it also blocks immoral content. The parents also get the definitive answer to what exactly the online activities of their child are.

It is important for parents to set limits on their children’s internet use, apps and websites, and to warn children in advance of their limitations. The children must be told that it can be harmful if they go beyond those limits.

Parents need to understand that the responsibility to protect children online is solely and exclusively in their hands. It is important that you continue to counsel your children in this regard every day. While it is important to educate children about safety through the internet, parents should also instill positive thinking in their children.

Parents should teach their children the positive aspects of the internet, introduce them to reading and informational websites through the web.
