Fun with Irie!
The other day Sarah and Irie came over. Super fun. The dogs got along really well and Irie is so adorably cute . . . and crazy!
Anyway, we all took a walk down to Cafe Madison for lunch. I hadn’t been there in forever, but it was one of the closer places I know of that has outdoor seating (and isn’t just a coffee place). We had to wait a bit to get seating outside, since we had Irie with us, but it was beautiful out and very enjoyable just talking. The food was really good and everyone was very interested in both the dogs. Poor Irie kept getting stepped on because she kept moving out into the aisle a bit, but Yara just laid by my side and people watched.
After lunch, we walked back to my apartment so the dogs could have some water. And they were super crazy! Irie got so excited she was leaping into the air and running all over. She actually sort of landed on my lap at one point and I was holding my newly fixed sunglasses, which she promptly squashed. (Good thing I’m due to get my new pair in about a week, but I think they’re going to laugh when I tell them I broke my sunglasses not even a week after having them repaired!)
I was really happy that Yara played so well with Irie. She doesn’t get nearly enough opportunity to play with other dogs, and sometimes when she does she’s randomly not in the mood to play. But as you can see above these two had no trouble — they actually destroyed a few of Yara’s toys during their tug-of-wars and chasing. Most notably the octopus. No big loss, though, since after the dogs tired themselves out we headed off to the pet store to pick up Yara’s food. And also replenish some toys and treats, including a brand new octopus courtesy of Sarah. ;-)
All in all it was a very fun day. Hopefully, we’ll get to do this more often, eh, Sarah?
Couch Potato Cuteness
Sorry for the lack of posting lately. I wish I could say it was merely from being super busy, but honestly I’ve just had a large lack of things upon which to blog. But I do have these super cute photos to share, so at least that’s something, right?
Octopus or Pillow?
You decide.
Birthday Girl!
Poor Yara’s been neglected here lately in lieu of all the excitement over Tonks. But fear not, fair readers, she is far from overlooked. Even though her birthday was a soggy one that prevented us from park-related activities, she still managed to enjoy herself:
I picked out the obnoxiously noisy “Wiggly Giggly” ball while we were at the store and I’m rather pleased that (a.) Yara seems to get a kick out of it and (b.) it’s a reasonably solid dog toy that might last, oh, more than a week. Yara picked out a rather cute multicolored octopus1 toy that has squeakers in each of its arms, which has quickly become the toy of choice to carry into the kitchen at mealtimes. That is to say, it’s already the culprit for knocking over her water dish the last four times. ;-)
As we’re on the subject, for those curious, yes she has been eating quite consistently since her last vet visit. She remains quite lean, but a few of my friends and colleagues have commented that her coat is looking extra healthy of late and that she does appear to have gained some weight. (”Not much, but her ribs aren’t as prominent!”) I’m of a mind that she’s gained back the three pounds she lost since May, but I doubt she’ll ever be anything but a petite little dog. Our next vet appointment is August 26, so we shall see then.
1. Well, more accurately, it’s a cephalopod.
Six Months
In my lack of posting of late, I neglected to mention that Yara and I passed our six month anniversary last month. (Also, how did it get to be July already?) I’d been expecting a follow-up evaluation, but have as yet heard nothing regarding it. When I called Fidelco, Des admitted they’re a bit backlogged with follow-ups. Oh, well. I’m sure they’ll get out here eventually.
The food saga continues. I actually postponed the vet visit until this coming Tuesday in part because of this. She is doing better with consistently eating for the most part, but honestly if I had to guess I’d say she’s probably lost more weight. It’s incredibly disconcerting. She’s not exhibiting any signs of being sick or infested by anything, but we’ll see what the vet has to say.
We went to the fireworks last night at the Empire State Plaza and they were very lovely. Yara was very good with all the distractions and only mildly alarmed by the fireworks and the noise. Her biggest issue was that anytime there was a lull in the show, she kept figuring that meant we were going home and she’d get up and be all silly. It was very cute.
And, finally, as promised the long awaited photos I keep being too lazy to post! First up are some of the “outtakes” from the portrait shoot back in May. I have the right one (second photo) framed on my desk at work, though, I’m a bit disturbed that I only now just noticed it kind of looks like she’s licking my chest in it!
