To kickoff the first day of NaNoWriMo there was a midnight write-in at the Denny’s in Colonie. I’m still unclear how I managed to even slightly function at such a late hour, but I am really happy I went. I met three other wrimos from the area and managed to write 2,426 words!
My brain was really not up to the task of trying to write at such a late hour, so I am not very impressed with the majority of what I have. It’s a solid start, though, and I can see the foundation of what I want to write. But it is a mess in terms of flow. I was suffering from the aftermath of a migraine and I was so tired and easily distracted by everything that I kept forgetting what I was writing (or talking about in terms of conversing with the other Wrimos) and find myself staring at the document wondering what the last, incomplete sentence was about.
In the end, my outlining was pretty much pointless because I just jumped around and wrote whatever popped into my head. But this is not an irreparable issue.
There were three other write-ins around the Capital District today, and I went to one near dinnertime. It was very exciting to meet some more Wrimos — and see some familiar faces from this morning’s midnight kickoff; I had a great time chatting with everyone. However, I didn’t get much writing done. Of course, Yara was a hit amongst the group. She’s totally in love with one new friend, who kindly drove us back home this morning. But I’m sure she’s not going to single her out and will be schmoozing everyone she can get away with.
Anyway, back home I sat down and finished off the scene I was attempting to complete at the Diner and my total for Day 1: 3,195 — a very acceptable start to this year’s Nano.
