I’d wanted to pos this yesterday, but I never got the chance during the day and then I was hit with a migraine that had me feeling so incredibly nauseous I just gave up doing anything except to crawl into bed and whine. But anyway, yesterday was new releases day, which includes new books. And, not surprisingly, I had a pile of books waiting for me at The Book House. Of note amongst the titles were Justine Larbalestier‘s Liar and Cherie Priest‘s Boneshaker. Both are books I’ve been quite excited to get my hot little hands on!
Liar is about, obviously, a pathological liar. In fact, said liar is the narrator of the story, which is exactly the reason for my intense curiosity over the book — and also why I’ve tried to stay away from every mention of the book for fear of spoilers. I have only read one other book by this lovely author, the very amusing and wonderful How to Ditch Your Fairy, which was also a very enticing, unique, and absolutely hilarious book. She’s a very easy author to read and I found her style drew me in within the first few pages. Oh, and for those not in the know, she’s married to the fantastic authorScott Westerfeld. Go buy his books, they are also very, very good. (I’m very eager to get Leviathan, which comes out next week.) Anyhoo, Liar has tons and tons of reviews all over the Internet if you aren’t like me and want more information about it before cracking the cover. Though, I do warn you that I’ve stayed away specifically because there have been some inadvertant spoilers mixed in with some of those reviews and I’m told the book is way more interesting read minus the spoilers. (This taken straight from the author’s own text.)
As for Boneshaker, I’ve made no secret of my super big love of Cherie Priest’s writing over the years. She’s quickly become one of my favorite authors and I’ve stalked her on the Internet (via her blog) for several years now. This one is her first venture into steampunk and everything I’ve heard about it has praised and raved about the awesomeness of it. It’s actually part of a series set in what she has dubbed “The Clockwork Century” and I’ve been practically drooling about the entire idea of it since she initially announced the trio of tomes almost two years ago! Thanks to the stupid migraine, I’m not nearly as far into it as I’d expected to be by now, but it is indeed sucking me as all of her previous work has. I won’t bother summarizing it all here because Cherie does a way better job over at the afore-linked website, but I will that it is a wonderful introduction to steampunk if you’ve never been acquainted before.
And here endeth my soliciting. ;-) Instead, you guys, you MUST go read these Twilight Saga recaps! Really. Regardless of your thoughts on the series, they are so worth reading, and are very eerie in how much they mirror my EXACT thoughts. Also, so funny.
